A mother is about three times more likely to experience a fatal complication during a surgical birth, compared to normal birth. The baby is also at greater risk of death during a surgical birth. Why take the extra risk? Not to mention recover after surgery takes weeks to months, compared to days to weeks after a normal birth. In addition, read up on the ways that normal birth is better for the baby's health - there are many.

If you are afraid of the pain, you have plenty of time to work on that. Read only positive birth stories, there are a ton online. Home births especially, those stories give you an idea of how moms can cope and be strong when they are birthing naturally. Not every woman experiences labor as horrible. I had a labor in which I did not take any drugs yet did not experience anything I could describe as painful. I used birth hypnosis and it worked beautifully.
