Default Pediatrician says baby needs to gain more weight

At my son's 9 month well-baby check, our pediatrician mentioned that my little one would be behind in gaining weight. He has not gained significant weight since the 6 month checkup. He now is 28 3/4 inch long and weighs about18.1 lbs. I am still nursing him and I think - could this be the problem? He's at this phase where breastfeeding, unless he's really really hungry or tired, appears to bore him. He sips a little here and there, then he looks around, giggles, laughs, does whatever, until he finally takes another sip. He is easily be distracted by any little sound. He drinks a little better at his 2.00 AM pitstop when my husband gives him the bottle (breastmilk of course). I am concerned.

Ignore the pediatrician. I have heard these things more and more in the last few months. Breastfed babies SLOW DOWN (or stop) to gain weight around this age. It's perfectly normal, but apparently many docs don't seem to know about it. Just keep nursing (and concentrate on nursing, not solids) and your baby will be just fine.

My son gained very little between the 6 and 12 month, and he's completely fine. I wouldn't worry unless there are other signs that there is a health problem going on.
