My 6 month old daughter has had acid reflux since birth. When it started to affect her sleep she was put on Zantac. It has been a hell of a time. I feel so sorry for the little one that I have to give her Zantac all the time. Are there better options to treat reflux disease?

An important thing you need to know about Zantac is that it is only an acid reducer - not a pain killer. With my children this works well because even with throwing up all the time they still were able to gain weight. My biggest concern was making them feel more comfortable and adding Zantac to lower the amount of acid has really helped with that. As Zantac is not a pain killer I think you are pretty safe giving it to your daugther.

My sister was told that zantac and tagamet both should work within 2-3 days after starting to use it. Zantac helped so her son could sleep a bit better, but it was not enough. Prevacid helpd a bit more, but Prilosec made a real difference. Ask your pediatrician about this.
