Every baby that I know who was taught sign language seems to be behind verbally compared to babies that have not learned sign. I am not extremely concerned due to the fact that these babies are able to express themselves with sign, and often stronger than those who are verbal.
What is your experience? Any opinion on my observations? M & P |

I do not think so. A neighbors child has not learned sign and it having problems coming up to speed speaking, too. I think it depends on the parents and how they encourage verbal speaking in addition to sign language.

That hasn't been my experience. I taught ds to sign starting at seven months and he used each sign as a jumping-off point for learning to say the word. At three, he's so verbal it looks funny sometimes seeing the grownup stuff he says coming out of his little mouth!
