A friend of mine gave birth to a little girl 4 months ago. She became depressed shortly after Anna was born. She is now being treated for this form of depression (Postpartum Depression). I am wondering - have you or somebody you know had postpartum depressions and what was done to treat the depression?
I am looking for the best way to help my friend. Thanks. |

Make sure your friend does not feel isolated. Isolation is increasing depressions. She has enough stress with the newborn. Show her that she is not alone and that you are still her friend. She needs support and she needs to be re-assured often.
If you have time - help her with generic household tasks. You cannot imagine how much that can make a difference. |

With the depression going for such a long time, your friend is at high risk. Make sure she takes any medicine that the doctor prescribed. Get friends and family motivated to help and to support.

Sometimes a vacation weekend away from the baby is a good way to relax and to recover. I know that it is pretty hard to leave the little one with the grandparents, but a romantic weekend just for the 2 adults might be worth thinking about in this situation
