For the average new-mom-to-be I can highly recommend this book:

I love the format of "The Nursing Mother's Companion" (Author: Kathleen Huggins), with all the specific steps to remedy specific problems.

Alright, if you'll pardon me -ing this thread (2 1/2 years??), I have an actual contribution: try out one of Amy Spangler's breastfeeding guides. They're slim (read: concise) books written in question-and-answer format. Very highly recommended!
