Hello everyone....
I am new mommy to be. Here is our story. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 5 years. We tried IVF,AI, and all the other ways to get there. We had intercourse under the full-moon, danced for a baby, did all the crazy stuff you ever hear about. It never worked out. Last summer my cousin offered to be a surrogate for us and she is now 5 month pregnant with our baby. You can imagine - we are very excited and ready for this little baby to arrive, but we also have many many questions now. The main thing right now is that we want to breastfeed and I am getting no support form my OBG. He said he was not aware of all this and really can't answer questions for a situation like this. Nice, huh? Anyway, I've read so many different things as to how to induce my milk and when to start the entire process. Now I am totally lost and a bit lost. Do I start now and get the milk flowing good before the baby? What herbal aids do I take to induce it? Do I store(freeze) what I pump before the baby comes? Please help. Lilly

I wish you GOOD LUCK on this journey. Rest assured: It can be done usually!!!!!!!
A friend of mine has a baby on the way via surrogacy, too. She uses a Medela Lactina Select pump and an order of Domperidone. She is now beginning to get drops of breast milk (after just 1.5 months or so of pumping). I am very happy for my friend. So, give it a try and do not give up after a month or so. Hang in there and be patient. ![]() BumbelBee |

Now that is a topic I really like. I admire your dedication. You will be a great mom.
Here is what I would do: Get a good hospital grade dual breast pump, spare no cost if you can, and pump at the exact same times every day to get started. Once your baby is born let him nurse whenever he wants. Always offer your breasts. But you need to get your supply built up. I would pump every day at (example) 7 am, 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm, and so on. Pump every two hours like that until evening. 2-5 minutes per breast will do for the start. Then slowly increase the time you pump over time. Be patient, relax, avoid caffeine, avoid OC medicines as most of them have little reliable information about their effect on breastmilk. Good Luck, Mommy. Barb |

Is there another nursing baby available to help get your breasts stimulated?
When my cousin was going through a similar experience, I let her nurse my baby and that seemed to help more than all the pumps and drugs, kwim? Yes, my baby had to go hungry for a few hours before she would latch onto my cousin, but, in the end it was worth it. Once her baby came home she was able to breastfeed for over a year! We waited until two weeks before her baby was due, and then after the one day, she was able to keep her supply flowing with the breastpump. |
