What does he weigh? The gaining rate may be a tiny bit low, but he's 3 months old. His weight gain may just be slowing down. I wouldn't give him juice yet. If he absolutely MUST have supplementation, it should be formula until he's 4-6 months. 6 is recommended. But I really doubt he even needs supplementation. Does he seem full after he's done nursing? Really, every baby is different. Yours may be ready at 5 months or 8 months. It's really up to you, when you feel he's ready to have solids. He should be sitting and have good head control at least.

Do not give him orange juice that little the acid will be too much for his stomach. I think you are supposed to wait until 4 months to give him apple juice and you can start feeding him rice cereal I believe. Usually at the start of the 6th month is when you begin feeding him baby food. Ask your pediatrician, if the doctor is concerned he'll suggest something for you. They're the experts.
