Default My 8 month old isn't too interested in breastfeeding anymore?

I am still breastfeeding my 8 month old with a goal to wean completely by 12 months. She is eating twice a day and ever since I cut the third feeding out, she only eats for less than 5 minutes per time. I don't want to go back to three times a day, as that is working backwards. I already feed her in a quiet room, just the two of us, no distractions. Anything else I can do?

Well you cant make your child breast feed! So to get all the proper nutrients in there switch to formula you cant starve them! They need all that extra nutrients and what not!

It is only natural that they stop breast feeding. It seems a bit early, but why is this a problem? She can eat anything you eat (only already chewed for her). Ask your doctor, but most don't see this as a problem.

It sounds like she is weaning herself, I wouldn't worry about it unless she stops growing or begins losing weight. Most babies start slowing down around this time. Just make sure she is getting plenty of nutrition from outside sources.

Actual self weaning rarely occurs before the age of eighteen months. Disinterest in breastfeeding before that age is referred to as a nursing strike. There are ways to keep the baby at the breast because premature weaning is, indeed, a problem. The American Academy of Family Physicians advises mothers that a child weaned before the age of two is at increased risk of disease.

If you wish to avoid supplementation with formula, all you need to do is keep nursing four times per 24 hour period. If the baby nurses at least that much, you don't need any other kind of milk or milk substitute. It's ok if it only takes the baby five minutes to nurse, at that age they may be very efficient at taking milk from the breast.
