Default Previously on Depo and now trying to conceive

Hi. I am trying to conceive and have now been off the depo shot for 13 months. I've only been fully off birth control for 9 months (on pill before) but haven't had any luck. I've been getting regular periods since I've been off, and I don't understand why I can't get pregnant. I have a 3 yr old daughter and had no problem conceiving her however this was prior to me going on the Depo shot. I was on Depo for two years but like I said I have been off for 13 months. Has anyone had problems like this or know anything about conceiving after the depo shot. Please reply with any tips. Thanks.

It can take a while for you to become fertile again. 9 months is not too unusual. How old are you now? With increased age you have to add time to become pregnant, too. You should also have your blood levels checked by your OBGyn - especially for thyroid related issues.

Thanks for your reply. I am only 21, but right now I don't have insurance so I can't go see the doctor. I'm just wondering if its normal for it to take this long.

I have also been on the Depo contraceptive injection and had my last injection June 2006. My periods have not yet returned, but did have some 'spotting' in Jan and Feb but this was hardly anything at all. I was told by my Practise Nurse that it could take 18 months for my periods to return, but am getting impatient now waiting. I was on Depo for 3 years (maximum recommended for is 2 due to the fact it can increase the chance of Oestoporosis). September 2007 will have been 12 months since my contraceptive 'ran out' so I would say to anybody wanting to conceive is, after this time, maybe contact your GP/Practice Nurse just to rule out any problems which may arise.

A friend of mine experienced the same problem with Depo. She is so frustrated now. "You're ready" and then you are benched waiting for something good to happen.
