It is more likely to be the man who does not smoke and drink as tobacco and alcohol as the toxins from both of these substances can poison the sperm, reducing the amount of sperm stored in the testes. Smoking and Drinking is not as bad as female drinking and smoking though while trying to conceive or during pregnancy as it can lead to an increased chance of problems with the baby and can even lead to miscarriage in extreme cases. Also the age of the man would make a great difference aswell as the younger man would probably get new sperm every 3 days while it could take an older guy longer- 5 days or more to produce as much sperm. I hope this helps with your question, good question, thanks.

Drinking, smoking, and poor diet can all contribute to a low sperm count. I have a friend who had difficulty concieving; all the tests showed that everything seemed to be working ok in both her hubby and herself; yet eight years went by and nothing happened. then, out of desperation, SHE went for reflexology; the reflexologist told her that both herself AND her husband should give up smoking and drinking, AND she devised a healthier diet, full of veggies, for them. She got pregnant within three months; now is expecting her third!!It stands to reason that a man with a healthier lifestyle , will, in general, produce healthier sperm. Of course, there are always exceptions..but in general.

Alcohol intake especially chronic in large amounts can cut down on the amount of sperm cells. But remember, it only takes one to get a girl pregnant.
