My husband and I have been trying to conceive within the last 3 years or so. I have an irregular period and my doctor first put me on birth control pills or regulate my period. So far in the last year or so, my period has become normal, coming in at least once every two months, before it was 3 or 4 times a year. I am currently on my period, so I know that I am okay, but my worry is my husband. He has been taking heavy medication for his back pain, medication that contains codeine and all. We have great sex and he does ejaculate inside of me, but with his heavy medication intake and plus smoking, is this one of the causes of his low sperm counts? It breaks my heart when I see everyone around me getting pregnant except me. We are also a young couple, I am 24 and he is 28.

You should also ask your doctor if you have Poly Cystic Ovarian problems this can cause a lapse in your period as well as infertility... I know you said the pill helped you become regular but maybe your not ovulating and you should ask about using metformin or clomid which can help you become pregnant.. As for your husband he should go see what his sperm count is and if there is some problem there. I don't think that a healthy man that only has back problems would have any problem to impregnate someone... best bet see your GYN.. and do some research on causes of infertility.. and best wishes..

I have heard somewhere that if it is taking longer than a year to conceive that you should see a doctor. You can never rule out that something could be wrong with yourself unless you know for sure. I know you were saying that you are getting your period once every two months now, but even that is a bit irregular. But certain medications can also make complications to (I read these on the back of medication my husband was taking). Being that you are both young, I'd think about seeing someone to rule out any problems. My husband was on high doses of medication, and I had just come off the pill and a month later we were pregnant. I think I would be asking a doctor, just for peace of mind.
