I stopped taking birth control pills in February 2007 and we have been ttc since, periods are not regular yet and not even sure they are back to normal as I believe this can take up to 6 months or so?? Just so sad everytime a new cycle comes around and I'm not pregnant. Will I be ovulating or does that take a while after stopping the pill also? Anyway, just wondered how long it took you to conceive after stopping the pill as I feel quite useless at the moment and hoping it's not just me. Be grateful for any replies, thanks for your time.HiThanks for you replies, wasn't expecting them so quickly, so thanks very much. I guess every body is different, it just seems everyone around me has babies or is already pregnant except me at the moment and when AF showed up today, I think I just felt a bit sorry for myself, hopefully our time will come soon. I have already been keeping a calendar, just that each cycle has been slightly different so far. We'll keep trying, it may only be 3 months of TTC but its feels like such a long time. Thanks again!Joo

Ovulation always happens even with the pill. The pill prevented implantation. Taking the pill for years does not hurt your chances of becoming pregnant. Periods without the pill are often irregular and rarely consistent. You are perfectly normal. Average time it takes women to get pregnant with no birth control involved is 6-8 months. That being said.....Stress can hurt your chances of becoming pregnant. Just keep at, and don't dwell on it so much. Don't worry about it until it has been more than a year or two without becoming pregnant. Timing is everything. Go to www.webmd.com and make an ovulation calendar to help you learn when your most fertile times could be each month.

I was on the pill for a couple of years and it took my husband and I six months to conceive. You will still ovulate every month. I am not sure why it takes time to conceive. Just be patient and enjoy trust me I know its easier said then done.

Don't get discouraged! You start ovulating the next month once you stop taking the pills but sometimes it takes our bodies a little while to get our cycles straight. This all depends on your age too..If you are in your 20's pregnancy can take up to 6 months to happen and if you are in your 30's it can take up to year for it to happen. If you havent gotten pregnant in a year then you should consult a doctor, but it has only been 3 months and I went through the same thing. I stopped taking the pill and it took us almost 9 months to finally get pregnant! I am now 3 months along.Good luck to you and remember everyone is different and there is nothing with it not happening right away..it will happen when the time is right!

My wife stopped taking birth control in Nov 2006, we got pregnant at the end of March. So.... 5 months? Not bad. I strongly suggest getting some ovulation sticks, the first time we used them we got preg... Try not to stress out, it'll happen, good luck!
