That depends on if you have an episiotomy (sp?) or if you tear. Depending on those depends on if you get stitches. If you tear just a tiny bit they may leave it but if you need stitches you will have to have them. They are not so bad. They will put disolvable ones in so you don't have to go get them removed. Good luck

From my experience, when i had my first child, i had an episiotimy(not sure if that is the correct spelling) which is where they cut you from your vaginal area to the back to prevent you from tearing. i had stiches from that. they were self dissolving and only sore for a few days. trust me when i say it is better to have them cut you then to tear.

No only if they had to make an incision in your perineum or if your perineum tore while giving birth. To prevent that you can massage your perineum. www.babycenter.com tells you how to do that.Good Luck...

It depends on if you tear, and if you do tear, how much. Hopefully you won't tear if you have a slow, natural birth. It's when the Drs do things like inducing you, or you have a very fast labor & delivery, that you tear or rip. Tears actually heal better than if the DR gives you an episiotomy (sp?). Do a google search for "birth plans". Many women have them preapproved by the DR before birth, so that if the DR isn't available to take care of her wishes during labor & delivery, no one else steps in and tells you "this is what I'm going to do...like it or not".

The only time they give you stitches is if they give you an episiotomy, *a cut in your perineum to prevent you from tearing* or if you tear, and the tear is bad enough to require stitches. So it really depends on how your delivery goes. Even if you don't get an episiotomy if you tear bad enough you may end up with a couple stitches.
