There's alot to know about giving birth. There are several methods of giving birth, vaginally and natural (no medicine), vaginally with medicine, or c-section. Throughout these different methods many things could happen. Before you give birth, you want to have an idea of how you'd like things to go and express that with your doctor. Of course, birth can not staged or planned the way you want it, sometimes things happen. But just enjoy your new little life and be happy. Check out babycenter.com for great answers to questions like the one you asked.

It is the most wonderful and scary thing in the world. You are bring a new life into the world. For the past 10 months you have felt this thing move and kick. You have been able to "control" what happens. As soon as that baby is born, all hell breaks loose. It is WONDERFUL.Remember that the anestholigist is your friend. Don't be afraid to use drugs. They are there for a reason. They will help you enjoy labor. Remember your breathing (if you took it) Talk to your doctors and nurses. Ask questions as things occur. SLEEP when you can. Enjoy whatever it is. Listen to your doctor when he is telling you to push. My first labor was 12 hours, I slept the entire time (i had an epidural). My water broke at 3 am, and I showered and shaved my legs before going to the hospital. the Second child was only 15 minutes (I thought I had to go to the bathroom) Enjoy and good luck.

Sure! I just gave birth to my first child a year ago, and I had so many questions. I'll try to explain my experience to you the best that I can. The one thing I kept hearing over and over was "You'll know you're having contractions when it feels like two hands are reaching around to the front of your stomach and squeezing." That was not the case. I felt my contractions in my lower back, but the doctor kept telling me not to come in until I felt them in my stomach. I was pretty sure that I was going into labor so I headed over to the hospital anyway (around 9am). I can't vouch for the line "You just know.", because I honestly didn't know if I was in labor or not. When I got to the hospital I was four centimetres dilated, and I chose an epidural. I swore that I wasn't going to get one, but by the time my contractions were at their peak - I changed my mind. I know there are so many horror stories about women who recieved epidurals, but mine was like heaven on a platter. Not too much happened after that. I wasn't experiencing any pain, and the doctors were coming in and out to check on me. I couldn't move around the room, because I had a monitor on, and I had the epidural in my back. Once I was 9 1/2 cm dilated they told me that it was time to push (2:40pm) and I pushed for 20 minutes and the munchkin came right out. I was pretty petrified going in for the delivery, because I never even had stitches or anything of the sort in my life. It was a great experience, and it's not as scary as you might think. Good luck! : )

Well, first off Congratulations!!! You are probably alittle scared which is normal. I have had 5 and it is a great experience!! I had the luck of only being in labor for 6 hours at the longest for all my kids. My quickest was 1 hour and 10 minutes but you will know what your body can handle when you are in labor. I had an epidural for 3 of mine and natural for 2 and I preferred natural because my body got better faster and I did not have to get an epsiotomy or I did not tear but you will know what is best for you. Good Luck!!!

What you do is...fill out paperworks for the epidural just in case the contractions are killing you. Just try to go through labor as long as you can without epidural.
