Default Question about Epidural

I have heard several stories that people had epidurals but that the epidural was pretty much worn off when it came to the real pushing. I do not understand completely. I always thought that the dose is dripping into the epidural space and can even be increased if needed.

So, how can an epidural wear out?

Mine did not wear off at all. I know that because I had heavy back labor. It was horrible without the epidural. So, I think it depends on each situation.

Some doctors like to lower the doseage when it comes to pushing. They want you to be able to feel what you are doing as it makes giving birth easier. Imagine to push "something" if you do not feel it.

i think every situation is different. i have known people to get it and feel no pain at all. but i think that it will drug the baby. i am 10 wks and when it is my turn i would like to have the baby naturally.

I have had two epidurals and I feel like they were almost more trouble than they were worth it! I didn't get a headache and there was no problem with them working. I felt actually too numb. Both times I had extreme shakings and low blood pressure reactions. The second time I almost passed out and vomited. I just hated it! I felt so nauseated and ill that after the birth of my second baby I couldn't even hold him for quite some time. Very annoying.

When I had my son I was seriously thanking god for the epidural and as far as I was concerned it didnt come fast enough. I hated those 30 minutes until it was finally in place and working.

Having an epidrual can be a good thing if an emergency situations arises and a C-section is needed. Ask questions whenever you can about epidurals. A good decision is an informed decision.
