Contractions in early labor are usually under 60 seconds long. However, I tried not to watch the clock too much with my labors. I went many hours with contractions that only lasted 40-45 seconds, and then they got much stronger and closer together and the end was near.
Watching the clock just made things drag for me... much better to think about other things! ![]() |

Mine woke me up in the middle of the night, they were probably about 20-30 seconds. That didn't last long though, within half an hour they were a minute long. I think they got steadily longer after that, but its a blissfully foggy memory after that!!

everyone is different but as a rule they can be anywhere between 20 secs and 90 secs(big difference hey!) and they dont have to be regular either i read which suprised me, you can have a strong long contraction followed by a weak short one, even in true labour. if you think you are in a labour ring your labour ward, or midwife if home birth, and they will be able to advise you.
