I have been having regular and braxton hicks contractions for a while now, but today I have been taking my medication to prevent them and haven't really been having the usual stomach contractions, but my back is absolutely killing me. Can someone discribe back labor and contractions to me. How does it differ from regular labor and contractions?

It hurts more and stays in the back, whereas the front contractions start in the back and quickly move to the front, but if you've been given medication to prevent the Braxton Hicks, then your doctor must be worried about pre-term delivery. When in doubt as to labor, best to see a doctor immediately.
Don't worry about being over-reactive. It's VERY normal for pregnant moms to experience several false alarms before the real event! So get checked and have a safe birth. |

Back labor is the worst labor you can ever have. Not even epidurals are able to ease the pain. I've had 2 vaginal births, both long back labors. My 2nd one was a home birth. With back labor you feel the pain on your lower back, your butt, your thighs ans you literally feel as if you were coming undone. Technically you are b/c in my case, my pelvic ligament tore as a consequence of back labor. I'm expecting baby #3 and the thought of going through this again kills me...

Mine was absolute hell. The only way I was comfortable was in the jacuzzi tub, which not all hospitals have, or on the floor rocking back and forth. I don't know how regular labor is, but it was a sharp pain shooting up my back (from her hitting my tailbone), followed by a dull, nauseating ache that lasted awhile. Its caused from the baby being face up instead of face down, so the back of their head presses on your tailbone every time you contract.
