Default I can't sleep

 i'm having a bit of trouble getting off to sleep. i feel as though the minute i lay down a million and one things start going through my head and i feel anxious.

has anyone got any tips on trying to relax or getting off to sleep ?

think i'm going to have a mooch in the first aid cupboard to see if we've got any nytol or something.

it's been a few days now, think it's just wedding stress but the thought of going to bed is making me feel anxious, it's a vicious (sp)circle

aggggghhhhhh

I have many a night like this Paula - especially around the time of month for me! I tend to watch a comedy or nice relaxing (not horror) movie, somthing that will make me smile or laugh. I also leave the light on, or even just the tv in the background to make me drop off. Try having cocoa before bed too that always helps me, and its supposed to be a anti-depressant

Hope you sleep well tonight!xx

I always have trouble sleeping, even when im really tired, ive tried waiting till i can hardly keep my eyes open but when i slip into bed im wide awake again
I went to the doctors and got some sleeping tablets just a few but they didnt work for me maybe you could ask? Just to get a good nights sleep then it might get you back into a routine?

this is something I've suffered from over the last six to nine months

try Nytol for aweek or so to get you back in a routine of sleeping - also Boots & Avon do nice sleeptherapy ranges - sprays for your pillow - stuff like that

hopefully it's only a short term thing for you

I did get soem sleeping tablets from the doctor and they did work but only whilst I took them - I only took them for a week or so as I don;t want to get addicted

another good remedy is watching the cricket!!!!!!!!

thanks for all the replies, i went to bed with the pick me up or something like that as i find the stories are easy to read and the mags are light enough to read in bed.

anyway, when jeff turned the light off i thought 'here we go' but i concentrated on my breathing and instead of thinking i tried counting, every time something entered my head i'd go back to 1 again.

i managed to get off and did sleep all night so tonight i think i'll try some horlicks before bed and a mag again and maybe lie on the couch and watch something instead of looking for things on the internet that are wedding related !!!

it's a horrible thing and i really really feel for people with long term sleep problems. my sister used to be on sleeping tablets from the doctor, i don't think she takes them now she's pregnant though ?

thanks again guys x

Hi Paula

Pleased you are finding a way to rest at night! It can be hard when u have a million in one things flying through your head, its a stressful yet happy time ahead of you, but its amazing how much stress it really does put on you.

Keep reading and having a warm drink before bed and most of all, i know its easier said than done, but before bed think of nothing else apart from good times, happy times - i might sound nutty, but it works for me, esp when my anxiety kicks in, which nearly always happend on the night times, i think of happy times, times that make me smile - it seems to lift the tense feeling from me! Just thought i,d share a little way of relaxing with you

I take a shower or bath, then take a hot choc to bed with a book or a good movie and you should be ok hun!x Dont let it get the better of you

Oh and the window trick always helps me when i feel like i cant breathe - but with the wind last night i couldnt

Heres to sweet dreams always!xx
