Default EASTER EGGS

Just a random topic from me

This is her recipe to make a basic chocolate egg:

Equipment needed:
1 medium saucepan
1 heatproof bowl
egg-shaped moulds
1kg of chocolate
greaseproof paper
teaspoon or piping bag

1) First, break the chocolate up into small pieces and place in the heatproof bowl. Sit the bowl over the saucepan until the chocolate is barely simmering, making sure the bowl does not touch the water. Begin to stir as the chocolate melts.

2) Then, take the egg mould and pour in the chocolate. Turn the mould upside down to remove any excess, and leave to set in the fridge for 10-15 minutes.

3) When the eggs halves are set, push them out from the moulds and place them on the grease proof paper.

4) Use a teaspoon or a piping bag to apply a little chocolate to the edges of the egg halves and join them together. Hold them together for a few seconds, and then leave them to set on the greaseproof paper.

5) All ready to decorate how you choose. Alternatively don’t join the 2 halves together, instead fill them with sweets, chocolates or edible shapes for something different.

Each egg can be wrapped in cellophane and tied with ribbons to make it look really professional. Florists, cake decorating shops, and hobby-craft centres will have everything you need to do this. There are also very good online shops that have everything you need.

Suppliers:

www.homechocolatefactory.com

www.candylandcrafts.com

www.squires-group.co.uk

www.hobbycraft.co.uk

www.yell.com

HobbyCraft stores across the UK have a good selection of everything you will need to create your own chocolate eggs. Check your local yellow pages to find the nearest Hobbycraft store, or other local cake decorating shops/ art and craft shops.

These are the eggs Emma made in the studio:

TRADITIONAL EGG

Use pretty coloured RIBBONS in pale colours traditionally associated with Easter, such as yellow and pink. Attach to the eggs with a blob of icing.

Decorate the eggs with Royal Icing or melted chocolate in different colours. You can write a message or family names on the egg. You can buy sugar flowers, sugar strands, fluffy chicks, feathers, ribbons and edible decorations from Hobbycraft, most supermarkets around Easter and cake decorating shops. This completed egg is sat on another half egg, just attached with a little icing, to make a display platform.

FUNKY EGG

Make decorative shapes from sugar paste using different shaped pastry cutters, like butterflies, hearts and flowers. You can also make a simple biscuit recipe and make biscuit shapes to attached to your egg, which is very simple but very effective. Attach these shapes with a little blob of ICING or meted chocolate. You can even leave the egg in to halves and fill the egg with the shapes and wrap in cellophane for an unusual display.

MODERN EGG

Using melted chocolate or coloured icing decorate the eggs with dots, swirls, lines, spirals, coloured sweets or small chocolates. This is great as an activity for children, or as presents for children. If using a egg mould you can pipe dark chocolate into the mould first, in lines, dots or swirls and leave to set, then fill in the remaining areas with a different coloured chocolate to create a marble effect.
