Default baby bird

i came across a baby bird today next to its broken egg shell. i left it alone untill this afternoon when it was still on the ground. it has no feathers and is the size of my thum. i have given it a mushed up worm and some water and and am keeping it warm . any clues what i should do ?
phoned the local vet who said to bring it down and they will kill it . i could not bring myself to do it . at the moment its sleeping it seems to be ok eating and drinking what shall i do .

we have just had babies (blackbird) from hatching to flying the nest it only took 2-3 weeks, the mother kept bringing worms while the father kept watch, so just try the worms.

When they left the nest we were watching from the window upstairs, they cant fly at first they hop, and the neighbours cat was waiting. She got one of them, im not sure about the others.

arrrhhh Babycakes that is very sweet of you - dont take it to the vets   I love birds

I would do what Ela said and leave it somewhere, where maybe the mother will find it and feed it or you could continue feeding it worms until it learns to fly

Oh And hi Ela - nice to see u back

The mother wont come back for it karen its way too small.
I think you'll probably find it will die through the night coz its very young unfortunately.
My cats have brought me bigger ones than that before and they havent lived.
