Benefits need to be there for people who need it. I myself have claimed unem benefit for a short time. I am not against benefits.

Benefits cheats should be reported but I dont know if I could bring myself to report one, perhaps afraid of being found out.

Do I know someone? Possibly

Should they be reported? Why should I do this job, what is my payment, why should I put myself and my family at risk for the government?

Does the system need changing? Maybe there should be better procedures for vetting applicants, more testing, more proof.

What can be done to get people off benefit? Give people the incentive to be better off when they come off it. Why go back to work if your rent goes up, you pay for prescriptions, you pay for kids school dinners etc, let people see the benefits of working. Help people back to work with training that is usefull for the area they live in.

This is it, and now with the minimal working wage (could end up another debate) this is a target for all employers to stick to. At the end of the day if most employers pay the same rate you cant go and look for a job with more money. To do that you need training and further education most of which are not free if you are working so you have to pay for them and end out even further out of pocket, then you're worse off than you were before you started looking for further education. Its a vicious circle which needs to be broken

I no someone who lost there job about 2 months ago.
they are now claiming "job seekers allowance" and have to do a course on interview teqnique ect to get there benefit.

most of the companies running these coarses are just con artists making a quick buck off the goverment.

How do you train for an interview, If you don't have the necessary skills then your not going to get the job, and lets face it nerves are the main problem in any interview, Ive sat in an interview with 4 interviewer and I came out soaking (no I didnt apply for a job as a life guard nor did they throw water over me) the pressure was immense, I did get the job so god only knows how bad the other interviewees were.

I go to pieces at interviews, they ask a question and I freeze and smile looking blank,

What are your good points: Er
What are your weaknesses: Er
Have you any questions: Er No

my sister and her partner have both been told that they are to be made redundant or drop their wage to minimum!! ruth is a team leader in a private nursery and her partner is the deputy manager.... they really would not be able to manage on minimum wage and why should they work for that? they are both highly qualified. They have decided to take redundancy and claim for a while and ian will be going to uni to train as a paed nurse They are not happy about claiming and its not going to be straight forward so i find it odd that some people [ones we have read about in the tabloids] seem to be able to have a very comfortable life on benefits!!
