after watching the news over the last few days - what do you think of health testing drugs.
I know it must be traumatic for the families involved but someone's got to try the new drugs. I know I would test drugs for diabetes if it would make my son's life better - I'd swap my pancreas with him if someone would do it. then I'd have the injections and all the other problems not him |

i still think its a good idea.
theres different testing though isnt there, you would test to see if the drug was safe then i think someone that actually has diabetes would have to test it to see if it worked. i wouldnt mind being tested for something that i suffer from if it found a cure  |

I am probably going to be shot down for this one.... but here goes, this is where I think testing in Animals is acceptable, surely this way all the tests conducted on humans will only cause mild side affects. I do not agree with testing on animals for cosmetics etc, but at the same time I don't think paying a young, healthy man of 21 £2000 to try an experimental drug that could potential ruin or even end his life, is a very good idea either.
I agree that health testing needs to be done, how else we will really know what will cure us, but the laws and guidelines need to be stricter and drugs near to being passed before administered to a human. |

£2000 to a 21 year old is worth a lot, and I am sure when they injected him they didn't say well actually there is a chance your head is going to swell and you are going to end up in a coma for 6 - 12 months see you at the end of it so you can spend your 2k... but I can definitely see where you are coming from...
Me, no way £2000 is nothing compared to what I am worth to my girls. What made me laugh was reading in the paper, that since this happened the amount of people that have registered for health testing has soared. |

Yes I read that too Lucy! they're always advertising on te radio in Manchester and I believe alot of the students sign up to earn extra cash,
I don't know if I'd do it for the money - but say if I had cance and they wanted to try an experimental drug I would probably go for it! I'm obviously not against animal testing either - but definitely not for cigs or cosmetics - that's just my opinion though!!!!! |

I could open a whole new can of worms and go into stem cells testing too! - they wouldn't let me have my placenta frozen when I had Laura. I wanted it to be tested for a cure for Alastair!

Don't get me wrong if one of my girls was diagnosed with a life changing or thretening illness I would be the first in line to test out a new drug, as long as it was safe to the point that it would not kill me off, what use would I be to my chikdren then.
You hit the nail on the head Jo, they are appealing to people who are in need of the money, students, single parents, people in debt ok and the young and naive. That is just morally wrong, preying on somebodies weakness (the need of money) to get them to risk their lives. Money is the route of all evil and being completely honest everyone has a price, it just differs depending on your circumstances. |
