to provide sex education?
is it a wonder so many children are not fully aware of all the aspects of sex and especially the dangers of it. my school didn't do sex education with us until we were 16!! all they did were tell us we could use the pill and condoms for the safest contraception and we watched her put a condom on a fake penis. by that time half the people in my class had probably had sex and i know one of the was pregnant! i think schools need to give sex education alot younger as there are many children as young as 12 giving birth and it should be very thorough. |

To be honest, I think most kids know how babies are made, wether they have sex education or not. You just find out about it from the playground ect.
I dont believe for a second that girls who get pregnant didnt know that they could get pregnant from having sex. Its total rubbish. They know what theyre doing and they know what will happen. I do think the emphasis should be on the fact that people can get free contreceptives from the doctors/clinics and that there is no shame in doing so, its extremley responsible.

yes i agree that i doubt girls are naive enough to think they cant get pregnant but i think it should still be confirmed to them as should all the methods of preventing sti's and pregnancy. i think schools themselves should give out free condoms and should have someone there who can give sex advice if needed.

I think there is a new anitiative announced soon that every school will have its own nurse for sex education contraceptive advice ect.
My area comes out top in the uk every year for most teenage pregnancy,s ? |

I agree with Lors. You have sex, you could get pregnant - it's not flippin' rocket-science ! And pick up any magazine, it's full of items about sex, contraception etc. What about the parents' responsibilities ? Why should the schools take the blame ?

Schools have done more than enough already!
Children know how babies are made and know the risk re:- unprotected sex and they think that they are invinsible! There have been enough "teenage pregnancy" storylines on the television and adverts on the radio and schools also have "drop in" clinics which is more than what i had when i was at school! Its the society we live in today i'm afraid and i cant see it changing! x x x

Children do learn all about the facts of life earlier, a girl in my daughter's class told her exactly how a baby is made they are only 5 years old  . At the mo my daughter knows that a baby grows in mum's belly but not how it got there ;-)

It happens with daddies magic dust ;-) thats what I'm going to tell my kids
Girls nowadays see getting pregnant a way of not having to work, getting a house and basically getting benefits. Some lads are quite slow on the uptake of this, hence they think not using contraception (condoms) is good, or the fact that they believe the girl when she says shes on the pill. Personally, you go to school to be taught things such as maths, science, english, technology, not how to have sex. Parents should bring up children well enough for them to know about common sense, the birds and the bees and also to know that contraception is free, where to get it ect. From going to school, their children should be able to read magazines, posters ect.

I agree Adele - schools do enough about this. My sister is always saying the same as you.
