Default Would you go private?

Would you if you felt there was an urgency in a medical condition go private to be seen quicker? My dad reckons its queue jumping and will have no part it in. Ive done it before wen ellie needed a scan 6 weeks public, ten days private. Wat does everyone think?

Well if we could afford we would. Both my parents need knee operations so my dad enquired about how much it would cost for just my mum and they said £10 000 . He said he would find the money but my mum said no. My dad said that if I ever needed to have a cornea replacement op in the future (I have kerataconus) then he would pay for me to go private but Im really not that fussed. Im actually surprised at how quick my dad's op date came through so the NHS is improving abit!

I paid privatley to see a consultant as the NHS waiting list was 9 months long.

I didn't see it as queue jumping as I didn't go to my NHS hospital, I went to a private hospital where the consultant works 2 days a week anyway so I didn't take anyone's NHS place if you like.

With me it was a case of having to, there was no way I could have waited 9 months

I arent sure. Like Carina says I also think the NHS waiting lists are moving pretty quick, plus the NHS can send you to a private clinic for treatment if they think its urgent and they have no room.

If I could afford it and it was important - yes

my Dad went provate for his hearing aid - NHS wait was 9 months and he got private ones within 14 days. his hearing's been going for a while but it went alot worse when he had his stroke last year

We are having the same problem getting hearing aids for our elderly clients Joanne. The waiting list is so long. Some of them are willing to pay £2000 for a private hearing aid!

it's a shame though that you have to wait so long if you can't afford the £2000

it's made such a fantastic difference to my Dad - we can have proper conversations now even if he's not looking directly at us!

Some of them are willing to pay but my parents get annoyed with some of the people that come into the home and try and push the most expensive hearing aid on the client! We have one lady who lost her expensive hearing aid so she said she wanted a new one but she isnt totally deaf or anything but this guy came yesterday and told my mum wow, your elderly lady is completely deaf and needs this hearing aid that costs £3000!! My mum told him to get lost!

Its great that they have made such a difference to your dad Joanne. Its been worth it now that you can have proper conversations again
