Default Lasers

I have recently got into lasers and have bought my own laser scanner (fancy way of saying the lasers thay have in night clubs). I only use it for personal use and at family party's but it it ok to use it outside? I can understand not pointing it at peoples windows which is hard enough but understandable but what about pointing it up into the sky?

The power output at the moment is just 75mW green. Which can burn almost anything black, I have a 100mw Red laser on the way that is going into the scanner as well as downgrading the green to a 50mw green laser. Total output power would be 150mw and in RGY or RGO.

I'm not a absolutely for sure but i believe with that low of a laser that there shouldn't be any problem with pointing it at the sky. I will try to more research and find out more but i don't believe that pointing it at the sky would cause a problem

I am just thinking because I am close to Luton, Stansted and London City airports and there are quite low planes at times.

Thing is 75 and 100mw are definitely not low power. Those little key chain lasers you can buy in shops are 1mw. All together this is over £200s worth of kit.

I agree they are not low power based on the key chain ones but they have used a lot higher on medical equipment and that. With you being as close to the airports as you are it might not be a good idea shooting them up into the sky with low flying planes.

Yeah, medical lasers are not designed to be used that way. The lasers I have have been specifically designed for shows and to amaze crowds which it does easily.

I am about 15 miles from each of the airports, from my location its like a triangle of airports that I am in the center of. The planes are usually around 5,000ft in traffic patterns. I have used another 75mw green laser pointer in the dark and pointed it up but obviously I have more control over that so can easily avoid aircraft.

I plan to do a Christmas laser animation show on the side of a building or on some trees around one of my family's places. Thing is after that I hope to do a beam show sending the beam scattered out across the sky in loads of different effects...

Seeing as I am not 100% sure what exactly that is, no.

In that case you most definately cannot use lasers at a public place / function.

It shouldn’t be a problem as long as you are not deliberately pointing at an aircraft. But just to be sure, check with the local authorities.

Sorry but thats incorrect, if you used a laser and it "hurt" someone, term being used loosly, and you have no public liability insurance you will be sued and could face a criminal conviction.
