Default There was a question about who you should tip? You should also tip cooks or chefs...

...for good food.?

I agree with this completely. I tip anyone who does a service for me. My nail girl, pedicurist, body waxer, server, valet. These people make minimum wage and use their tips to helppay rent or put gas in the car or buy groceries. They are helping us so we should help them.

No just the wait staff. The chef gets paid much much more.

At a restaurant? No, the cooks and kitchen staff get paid a decent wage. Even the bussers get paid a decent wage. It is really only the servers that you need to worry about tipping, they will distribute "tip outs" to the bussers and bar accordingly.

No, the chefs and cooks are compensated well by the employer for there services. If you want to tip extra, you should concentrate on your waiter who only makes 2.13 per hour. Could you live on 2.13 per hour before taxes?? Not only that most restaurants require the wait staff to tip the bus boys, hostesses, and bartender what is left for them to live on? When was it left up to employees to pay higher paid staff tips. What happened to the employer!!!!

If you are a cutomer do not tip the cooks because you cannot do it personally. (the server will likely just keep the money.)Tip the server whatever you feel is approprate. Cooks already get tipped. In most resturants servers are required to tip out cooks dishwashers bartenders(if they had to make alot of drinks for them) and bus people before they leave for the day. They use the tips they got and give out certain percentages to the others.So basicly if the server makes 100 bucks in tips generally she will have to give a certain % to the other employee's who provided service for her.If you tip anyone besides a server in a resturant tip the bartender and bus person because generally they get payed minimum wage just like the server and the bus person espeshally doesnt make much extra in tips.

Most servers end up making more than the cooks who prepare the food. It's pretty sad, but it's the truth. Running a restaurant is not easy, and there isn't a lot of money to be made. You can't cut costs by buying cheaper ingredients.If you try to save money by paying your cooks and dishwashers less, it's very hard to keep good hard-working people in your kitchen.If you tipped your server for the service they provided and you want to thank the kitchen staff for their work too, ask the server how to best do that. Some restaurants tip out their kitchen staff, and some do not. If your server is good, they will let you know the best way to do it, it might be an extra tip for the kitchen or it could be a bottle of wine or a round of beers.My cooks work hard for me, but they love it when they get rewarded by diners for their efforts. I let my servers know that if a guest would like to tip the kitchen the best way is to give the server extra and ask the server to buy beers for the cooks at the end of the night. The cooks work hard because it's their passion, they don't do it for tips and perks, but that doesn't mean they don't enjoy them.
