LESLEY SHARP AND ANDREW LINCOLN STAR
IN NEW SERIES FOR ITV1

Lesley Sharp and Andrew Lincoln are to star in Afterlife, a new, highly original series produced for ITV1 by Clerkenwell Films.

Lesley (Bob and Rose, Playing the Field, Planespotters) plays a medium, Alison Mundy, who is able to reach people on the “other side” as a result of a traumatic accident. But she is uncomfortable with her powers, and fears the effect they have on her and other people.

Andrew (Whose Baby, Lie With Me, Teachers) plays Dr Robert Bridge, a psychology lecturer who is very sceptical about Alison’s powers, and believes they could even be dangerous.

They meet when Robert takes his students to a clairvoyance evening as part of their course studies. One student, Veronica, is visibly disturbed when Alison singles her out and claims to be able to see her mother, who died in a tragic suicide pact.

The series follows the emotional, poignant and frightening stories of Alison and Robert.
Filming has just begun in Bristol on the compelling new drama, written by Stephen Volk (Ghostwatch, Gothic, Octane). He says:

“Afterlife is about a troubled modern-day spirit medium and the even more troubled psychologist who is studying her.

“I have always been interested in the grey area between psychology and the supernatural, and today, what with real live mediums appearing on Living TV, it really feels the right time to make this drama. I would like Afterlife to have the kind of impact I remember from ghost stories and imaginative tv I remember from my childhood.”

The cast includes Kate Duchene (A Sense of Guilt, Weirdsister College, The Worst Witch), Adrian Lester (The Day After Tomorrow, Hustle, Born Romantic, Maybe Baby), Anna Wilson-Jones (Hex, NY-LON, The Silent Treatment, The Mother).

The producer, Murray Ferguson (Quite Ugly One Morning, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Rebus) says:

“Afterlife manages to combine genuine scares with emotional and compelling stories concerning characters and situations that are familiar to us all. The most frightening things happen in the most ordinary of places. The supernatural has fascinated for generations and I’m so pleased that we are making this series for a primetime audience. With Lesley Sharp and Andrew Lincoln heading a great cast and with Stephen’s excellent scripts, I’m sure this show will really grip. Don’t turn the lights out!”
