Default My Step-Dad is suffering from a life threating illness

Hey All,

I probably won't be on advicethread for a while cuz right now my step dad has been sitting in the hospital for almost 2 weeks with a life threating illness. His bioducts which are the ducts that come from your liver that goes through the head of the pancress that all of you bio travels through to your intestines so you can get rid of. The only way to take care of this illness is he needs a bioduct bypass but only a few doctors in United States do the proceedure. On tuesday we found out that Virgina Mason Hospital over in Seattle, Washington had accepted us but when my mom and step dad were getting ready to go catch the medical plane to take them over there, Virgina Mason called back and said that they weren't going to accept us now cuz on not having health insurance. So we called up University of Washington Medical Center yesterday and my step-dad's doctor talked to them and they told us to fax over some paper work so we did and as of right now we are waiting for them to call back and let us know if they are going to accept him or not. I have tried making all of the phone calls to the higher up people that i can and i have not got any help from them. I am still waiting for others to call me back. I just don't know what to do. I have had maybe 25hrs of sleep in the last 14 days. I am lost on what to do anymore.

I'm really sorry to hear the problems that your step-father is currently going through. I hope that your father will be able to go to a hospital where a doctor can do the procedure. I don't blame you for trying to help your father the best way you can and I think you are doing a good job of it. All you could really do now is continue trying to make calls, and just simply wishing that he'll be able to get the right medical treatment. I wish you the best luck possible and I hope that everything will turn out really well at the end.

I hope that he's been getting better but I haven't seen you much on here so it's pretty difficult to tell at this moment. Like I said before, I wish the best luck for your father and the rest of your family members. If you need anything from us, feel free to ask or if you just want to talk, don't hesitate to talk.

That's great news! I'm glad that the procedure went well and that he's currently recovering now.

I am too. The only thing that sucks is now that he is going to be one of the worst case diabetics but my whole family is going to try and help him out with it as much as we can.

tell your dad to eat bitter melon Bitter melon can help decrease the intensity of those with diabetes. Sometimes, the person who eats that daily can live easier and I heard of some cases where the diabetes was almost nonexistent. I have no idea about how it works though and it tastes horrible (really, that’s why it’s called ‘bitter’”\) but it may help. And I hope your dad gets better

thanx manix. just besides my step dad being a severe diabetic he also has to take pills for the rest of his life now because he no longer produces pancreotic juices to break down the fats in food so he will be on pills and shots for the rest of his life but at least he gets a second chance.
