I am a mother of 4 kids. I just had an idea recently, since it's hard spanking my two older girls the way I spank my two younger ones (over my lap with my hand). I am thinking about buying a paddle to use. Does anyone know how to use a paddle for spanking?

If it's hard spanking your older children maybe you should find an alternative. there are other ways to be punished.

You're horrible. A paddle?? Really - ask your husband to smack you with a paddle when you do something wrong - that will be a great way to learn.

NO!! A paddle is TOTALLY uncalled for. Your hand is the only thing you should use to spank a child with. How old are your girls? I think you need to reasses you discipline methods (not being rude, just honest). If you have to hit your girls that hard then its abuse. I suggest parenting classes specilizing in disipline. This does not mean you are a bad parent, but if you don't seek help you will be one. I know this sounds aweful but think about you kids and what you are teaching them. GET ASSISTANCE, GET HELP, WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS WRONG!

I don't spank any of my children with anything, I think spanking is abusive and just wrong-take some parenting classes so you can deal with children a little more.

i only smack my kids by useing my hand or better still i stop them going out for a day or so and send them to there bedroom

Well, it's a little late to weigh in......but that's never stopped me before.

While I personally disapprove of spanking a kid, I do see where you need to get their attention. I think a single swat with just a hand does that. That is the point where they understand that they screwed up and you are angry. Anything beyond a single swat (and a good verbal follow through) is just your own venting your own frustration at being unable to otherwise control your kid.

I swat. Then tell them what they did wrong and why they are being punished. Then going to their room or stand in the corner or whatever.

Oh and for one wack, no paddle is nessessarry.
