Default Toddler foods..?

My son is 14 months old and loves food. He eats pretty much anything we give him . My problems is the fact that I'm too scared to give him certain things incase of choking. Can I give him a piece of steak or a chop and let him gnaw it himself? Even lollies like snakes. My biggest fear is him choking. Any ideas or suggestions??

cut it into small pieces and give him one. I would not give him a big steak or chop because he might get a big piece.

I wouldn't try it but that's just me. Anything that a toddler has to gnaw by themself is probably not that good for them and will probably cause them to choke. I just wouldn't give it to him. Let him eat something soft off your plate. I wouldn't chance him choking. It's very scary.

If he has teeth, I wouldn't worry too much about giving him many things. As far as the steak, I would just make sure it was a small piece and make sure you watch him. If he chokes, obviously don't give it to him again. But you have to try it at some point. Just make sure the piece is small, but not too small to chew and be sure to watch him carefully while he eats it.

Just keep an eye on him while he has foods like this, so you can easily take care of it if he needs help. They also have these new things at Wal-Mart that are like mesh bags you can put food in so they can't choke.I doubt he'll be able to gnaw off a piece to choke himself, he'll probably just chew it. Steak has to be torn and ripped, its pretty tough.I also say give him a LARGE piece, that he can hold in his hand. So large he can't fit the whole thing in his mouth. Otherwise he might try and swallow.

when my son was that age he had steak.if you cut it in small pieces it shouldnt make him choke.of course my son choked on some before(not bad though).if he liked some food so much it didnt matter how small it was it happend a few times.turn him around and pad his back.he learned to eat slower.

At 14 months he's pretty much capeable of eating whatever you eat. Just chop things small and make sure they're cooked or washed completely and stay by him in case he does choke. Kids choke, it's pretty much inevitable unless you feed them from a Gerber jar for the rest of their lives. He will be fine. I assume you watched the infant cpr video after you gave birth to him? Those are great videos and I've been prepared for that choking episode for a while now but thank god it hasen't happened. You could tear the meat into small shreds if it makes you more comfortable. He'll love it!

Is he chewing his food? If you give him a Cheerios, does he chew it, or try to swallow it whole? If he chews it, cut up little pieces of steak for him to eat. My son loves steak, and has for quite some time (he's two this month). It is normal to be fearful, and my little guy has choked a few times, but always manages to get it up himself. Last time it was on a piece of corn dog that I had quartered! He just decided to try swallowing it whole this time.. it is odd the thoughts that toddlers have from one day to the next. Just keep a close eye on him while he is eating. Good luck!
