Have him sit up and tip his head FORWARD (not back, as the blood will drain down his throat and may cause vomiting). Squeeze the nostrils shut gently. Give it a bit of time to stop bleeding (10-20 minutes). If the bleeding continues or appears unusually excessive, you may want to head to the ER.

He should sit with his head facing down to stop any blood going down the back of his throat, and you should squeeze the fleshy bit at the top of his nose for 10 minutes.Ice in a bag around his nose will also help stop the bleeding, but take care not to put the ice directly to the skin, it needs to be in a plastic (carrier) bag

Take a napkin/bunch of tissues and some warm water and clean him up. Then, using fresh wash cloth (dry!) clamp his nose tightly but gently and have him lay down. Let him watch TV, but not on his side!!! He'll be fine, no need for he ER!
