Try "Duck on a Bike" by David Shannon. It's about a duck who gets a crazy idea that he'd like to ride a bike, and proceeds to ride all around the farm and have a great time. The story is a great little lesson in following your dream, even if it seems crazy or unattainable. It's also a great opportunity for the child to participate in the storytelling -- each time Duck rides past an animal and says hello, the animal will say (insert appropriate animal noise here), and then the book tells you what that animal was really thinking (e.g.; the cat thinks "I wouldn't waste my time riding a bike,", the cow thinks "He's going to hurt himself if he's not careful," etc.)

My nephew absolutely adored Katy Cat and Beaky Boo.It's a flap book that delves into color, texture, animal noises, food of choice, and clothing. It's also really bright and colorful.I picked it up at a garage sale and we've read it so many times the flaps are falling off.As mentioned above, Love You Forever by Robert N. Munsch and Sheila McGraw is an amazing book. My mother read it to be when I was little and I still remember it.
