Default Question for moms/dads with toddlers who HIT!!!!?

My 2 year old son is such a great boy. He is so behaved, sweet, smart, lovable etc...I could go on and on. BUT he is a hitter and it's getting worse. He had 7 time out's this morning and he had only been awake for and hour and a half! I am at my wits end and don't know what else to do. Should I keep being consistent with the time outs and hope they eventually work? It is so frustrating and embarrassing especially when he does it in front of guests like this afternoon. He wacked me in the face so hard, my earring flew out and landed on the other side of the living room floor. I just don't know what to do anymore. Any advice would be great! Thanks!I would like to add that I will NEVER hit my son back or spank. Spanking is just a glorified word for hitting and I do not believe in that type of parenting.

To be honest when my son used to hit I hit back, only a bit harder. everytime he would hit I did it just a bit harder and would hit the tops of both his hands. He got the picture and stopped. now we play all the time and he knows how to play without hurting. I don't like to spank but I don't want him growing up thinking it's ok. Sometimes you gotta give tough love.

Yes Keep up with the time out ,But remember don't put him in a room where there is a TV or game system or any fun things. If He has a special toy like a game system or game boy he just loves take it away from him and explain why you are doing this to him.At this age repeating that hitting is bad is what you need to do because at this age they absorb alot of info in there brains.

If it's getting worse, then obviously the time-outs aren't working! If you aren't comfortable with spanking, try different approaches. Take away a favorite toy or something. If all else fails, for the love of God, trying spanking him. It doesn't even have to hurt, and I certainly don't suggest leaving any marks on him at all, but just to get the message across, and talk to him about it afterwards.

My daughter is a hitter, not me but her big brother. When she hits him she gets a time out, and after that I make her kiss him and tell him she is sorry and I don't let her play with him the rest of the night. She adores her brother, and for the most part I think it is wrestling getting out of control, but he has had black and blue marks from her throwing stuff at him. I told her that if she is goin gto be mean, he won't play with her, then I have him shut her out of his room.

You are right about hitting back.Make him understand that it is paining.Don't speak to him or act angry.Maybe a little teasing will help
