Hiya karen

I saw somewhere in a post that I cant find now, so i thought id start a new one, anyway I saw that you said after uni youre hoping to start a family before you get a job, Id recommend getting a job first, then youll be able to claim all your entitlements, like maternity leave, parental leave ect . . .

Hi  I was thinking that to be honest. But do you not have to be working for so long before you get all the benefits? I,m getting on you see  and i would like children before i,m 30, although we dont obviously mind to after that either but thats just how i feel.
I would love to get a job first but if i,m going to get one i was not sure what i was entiled to and if they would be ok with it etc..... My husband will be working in a law firm so we will be ok for money etc.

Thanks lors for your help i really aprreciate it

You have to be with your employer for at least 26 weeks by the 15th week before your due date to get Statutory Maternity Pay, Karen.

Karen, if you can afford not to I'd not bother as sometimes you can get employers who are a bit funny about the whole pregnancy business (even though they're not allowed to be) and start being a bit a*sey when you're wanting time off for antenatal etc. I stayed in a demanding job whilst pregnant and thinking back I must have been mad, it's just not worth the hassle..

If I did it all again I'd be enjoying and chilling out as much as I could for the nine months, it all gets a bit frantic (and tiring) once the babes arrive ! As everyone will tell you !

If you do feel like a job, just take on something part time and non demanding !

Enjoy your pregnancy ! (even though you're not yet !)

Thankyou Polly

When you said that last bit i got really happy  it made me feel like i was - this may sound silly but lately i really want to be preganant i think my clock is ticking  I even feel like getting baby things in - i know thats extreme considering i,m not yet but i often have those feelings. Weird maybe but true. As soon as my exams are over in May its work time (but only for babies)

I think i will just chill during the whole thing as i heard too that employees can be funny and thats the least thing i want.

Ar, sounds to me like you're ready ! It's weird when the feeling takes over you, nothing is as important to you than a baby and there's nothing wrong with that, sounds like you'll make a lovely Mum.

Also, I always think that there's no point putting it off for various reasons if you feel ready, as with Anna it took us two years to conceive her so you just don't know what's for you etc or what will happen.

Thankyou very much polly. I hope i will make a good mother  We are both ready now and i,m getting excited for the whole trying part.
We were talking about it all last night and i said i think the only part of it all that i,m frghtened of is giving birth - although when it happens i,ll be too busy wanting the baby out to think of anything really. I just love to see women with bumps

I spoke with Paul about it over the weekend and I think it will be at least 5 years before we start to think about it :-(
