maybe a bit out of topic but anyway I was diagnosed some time ago with GBS which is very dangerous while giving birth and there's some procentage of babies die cos their mothers have GBS and ever so oftne now I look at my daughter and think that there she could be not here with me now just because I had no idea about GBS at all at that time!! That's a shame that no GP and no HV warn mothers to be about things like that and only the ones who know about it go and buy GBS tests and check!! I feel so guilty now and so thanksfull to GOD that nothing happened. I think I get depression wave every time I think about it.

See, that's the problem most of people never heard of it but 30% of people at all have it and even have no idea that they do! Anyone could have it. It doesn't have any symptoms and can be only caught on the test! It's called GBS Streps Group B you can read more about it here - http://www.gbss.org.uk/ That's a shame HV or doctors never warn people about things like that!! Because just a test (costs about £35 I think) could make such a big difference, as if you know you have it they will treat it before delivery and probably during as well so there's really less chances that baby will get it!
About a month ago there was an article in a free local paper about a local mum who lost her baby at 4 days old because of it - it was terrible - I was crying and my little one was getting lots of cuddles without understanding why! That mum gathered 10,000 for GBS awarness charity

Hi avebell...

I was diagnosed with it too when I was actually in labour with Aaron by a stroke of luck too because they swabbed to see if my waters had broken.

I had Aaron by emergency section and only got the results back AFTER I had had him.

His temp rose slightly whilst in hospital and we had to stay in with him on antibiotics for the first 3 days which was awful as I just wanted my baby home.

I read more about it when I had left hospital and it is scary! I too thank god that he is here safe and sound and will be pushing next time to be tested nearer the time of the birth!

As you say, no-one mentioned it and neither was it raised in any magazines!

BB x

well at least you were diagnosed in hospital - I was diagnosed like few months after delivery, so even if my little ones temperature would come up I probably might have thought that it's normal for babies as it's my 1st one and I had no experience before! But thanks GOD (again!) nothing like that happened! still feel terrible when reading how many children die every year and how many survived just to be disabled for the rest of their lives and all because our NHS tries to save money by not doing tests!

I agree with both of you Avebell and Bigbump29 that people should be made aware of all this and anything that could affect you or the baby.
Pleased to hear that you both are ok now

There was a lady on the Boots website forum who used to tell us a lot about GSB, in fact she had a daughter who was blind from it (im near sure she was) and it was caused from GSB, her other daughter could have been at risk but they gave her medication to prevent anything happening, its horrible to think that such a simple diagnosis could help save peoples health
