Hi all, weve been to see the ENT specialist today privately who has recommended that ellie has grommets inserted to help reduce the number of infections she has been having. He also thinks she may need her adenoids out at the same tym, dependingon wat he sees wen he goes in. If we go public we have to wait at least two years for a consultation and a further year for the operation as there arent ENT services in Donegal at the mo. Privately it will cost us £1100 for both to be done on Thursday coming because he thinks the sooner the better to put an end to her misery. Im just dead scared of the anaesthetic risks i could be paying to kill my baby. I no the chances are small but u worry dont u? Wat would u do if it was ur child having monthly ear/throat infectons and this was recommended?

sorry Lizzie - if I had the money I wouldn't hesitate - especially if my little un was suffering so much each month!
only you and your hubby can make the choice - think carefully and whatever you decided between you is right for Ellie! |

lizzie, sorry i'm not really medically clued up, what are the risks of anaesthetic, i'm unsure ? is it just because they don't like putting little ones to sleep or more than that ? i'm sorry, i'm a dope !
it must be hell for all of you, most of all poor ellie with all this illness every month, i mean all you want is to see her happy, healthy, playing etc... it's a hard decision but i think i'd go for it if it were anna and i was constantly watching her suffer, providing it was all low risk. |

Well i think paula its just incase they react badly to it but im not overclued on anaesthetics either i just no of a few kids died after minor ops. Id say the consultant has taken everything into consideration, i would hope they wouldnt go into it lightly, im kinda confused cos the consultation ended quickly and i didnt even no if it would be day release or not i had to call afterwards and ask that. Maybe he expected i wouldnt want to pay for it or something ..... god nos but im sure the anaesthetist will answer all my questions before. Gemma had her tonsills and adenoids out wen she was 3 and one week and she was fine. Were going to do it , we have to for her sake, and our sanity

i agree with you lizzie, i mean how many kids are being operated on daily in the world, although it's far easier for me to say that as i'm not the one facing it. i do think you're making the right decision for ellie, you can't see her suffer another possibly two years. thinking of you as always, when is life gonna be plain sailing eh liz ? hugs xxx

Me and my mate always say in two years tym we will look back and laugh, problem is between her and her mum being ill and dying and now mine we are still not laughing  . Things cant go wrong forever and i suppose im lucky it is only ear/throat problems wen u look at how ill kids really can be and im sure this will sort it out for us. Then ill be able to put her out of my bedroom  shes starting to wake up if we make any noise

Lizzie i absolutely c****ed myself when tom was put under, his was when he had his teeth out, but it needed doing because he was in pain.
It was funny as they said they'd never seen someone take so long to go under *nosey, thought he might miss something  * and he woke up really really fast ![]() I would personally say let her have it done, i was suffering with my ears constantly before i had my grommets put in what with infections and burst eardrums all the time and it isnt nice ![]() I went in for that and to have my adanoids out but they took out my tonsils instead as they said they looked cancerous  turned out they werent ![]() It is scary but then you know you will be doing it for the best and to put her out of all the misery she is in all the time, and the risks are very low lizzie xxx |
