Default Late talker

My youngest is nearly 2 and half and he seems really late in talking. he says a few words - but he only really uses the first sound. he fully understands everything you say to him and is bright as a button, just doesn't say very much.

I'm sure it is not helped by the fact the older two never let him get a word in!!

What are your experiences??

I have a similar problem with my 18 month old he won't walk on his own, he walks round the furniture and holding your hand but won't take that first step. But he is talking, they say that they do one or the other

They always say the youngest may be the last to do things because like you say, they have their older brothers and sisters to do or say things for them.
He will catch up before you know it
And they also say not to compare any children with others either, they do things at their own pace.
You've said he understands what he wants and what you say, so you know theres nothing wrong there  x

Thanks girls....

It couls be that he just can't be bothered - we all know what he wants so i guess he thinks there is no real need to talk.

Maybe he is just storing it all up and will come out with a huge long sentance one day!!

My first was quite late in talking - but has certainly made up for it since !!!

I agree, I think boys are either lazy, or just late developers, can't work out which!
Liam too didn't talk much around that age, making up for it now!

my friends son was very late starting talking and she was very worried about it so she mentionied it to those concerned. he has had speech theraphy - he is epeleptic (or how ever you spell it) though.

it might be worth talking about it someone if you`re really worried
