Default Measuring Small but Baby Measuring Large

In addition to my back problems I have another concern. 2 1/2 weeks ago I measured small for gestational age. So my doctor had me go to have an ultrasound done. According to the ultrasound, although I was given a date of 30 weeks pregnant my daughter is measuring at 31 weeks. Last week at my follow up I was still measuring small. I asked my doctor if her being normal to large but me small was a problem, she said no that she would be concerned if my daughter had measured small. Im a bit of a worry wart and I just dont see how that could not affect her or cause any problems, I am also wondering if that could be contributing to my severe back pain. Has anyone ever heard of problems associated with the mother measuring small but baby measuring normal-large or been through something similar? Thanks Kassie

I am sure that the size of your baby is connected to the pain you are talking about. Don't worry about baby's size in general. Unless you have a very small birth canal you will be just fine.

I am diagnosed with a very small baby. We're most likely facing an early C-section to make sure the baby is Ok. It's probably my placenta that cannot support the baby good enough. I would not be worried with a large baby. They all will come out - sooner or later.

When I delivered my little boy with 7 lbs 10 oz I could hear heavy "push" support from across the hallway. It seemed to me it went on forever and I felt sorry for that girl. If she is having problems pushing she will never give birth. Every time the door to my room was opened we could hear things going on over there. A while later the nurse came in and reported a 10 lbs 10 oz baby from the other room.

Whew! No wonder why she pushed forever!!

I met her a day later in the post partum area of the hospital. Here baby was really big. I felt so thankful for the reasonable size of my little one.

2 things
First gestational age is only a guess, since it's nearly impossible to pinpoint the exact day of conception ultra sounds are the more reliable source of how far along the baby is, so you more than likely were around 31 weeks rather than 30.
Second the position your baby is lying in effects how large or small you measure, so I wouldn't worry to much about that either - my baby was of average size when I had my u/s but yet I measured 3 weeks farther, so I never bothered worrying about fundal height measurements because they are not accurate - its used for showing growth more than anything.

On a side note, back pain can be contributed to pregnancy no matter how small or large your baby is, I have been battling sciatica with my pregnancy since my 6th month - I am due this saturday and looking forward to being "normal" again

I had back pain from the 26th week on until week 38 when my first son was born. I am in week 15 with baby #2. We will see when the pain comes back. Not necessarily something I am looking forward to.
