Default Is the second pregnancy really easier?

My first son I was in labor for 18 hours before an emergency c-section. He will be 4 in July. I want a VBAC, as I didn't want the first c-section, but my sons life depended on it. Any advice on the subject?? I'm still ttc btw.I should add that the 18 hours were unmedicated. I didn't have anything until they (my mom and husband) made me get an epidural, because they didn't like seeing me in pain, which I needed for the c-section anyway. The c- section was because I only dialated to 9 and his head was too large. He was a week overdue.

I would try another c-section. VBAC can be dangeous once you've had a c-section. Look at it this way - you already know what to expect with the c-section and can schedule the delivery!

I personally want a VBAC next time too, my son's life also depended on a c-section. I do know there are some doctors that will not even attempt a VBAC because of the risks, so ask your doctor ahead of time if he/she allows it. If not, try finding a new doctor who does and has lots of experience with it. I've heard of so many successful VBACs so good luck!

I am pregnant with my second now and I had an extremely difficult labor like you with my first. So bad I never wanted any more children. My son is now 4 also and this pregnancy was not planned. I am chalking it up to my age , (32) but I have felt really crappy this go round. Really tired and cranky but I know it will pass soon. I only hope my labor goes easier. I am planning a VBAC with my OB giving the ok. I am due in 9 weeks so I will let u know how it goes. Sorry to be such a buzzkill about second pregnancies not being easier but everyone is different.

No, in all honesty, it's not. Somehow, the books and everything never tells you that! Actually, a lot of the pains you have the first time around are sharper, earlier, and more so with each subsequent pregnancy! At my last visit, my midwife asked me if I've had any cramping "down there" (my phrasing, not her's!), and, when I said I had, she kind of laughed and called it the "third baby blues," or something to that effect! The problem is, as it was explained to me in my last pregnancy, you actually have scar tissue in your uterus (and I'm not talking about from a c-section; I had vaginal births with both of my daughters, and it still applies!) When you become pregnant again, you're restretching that scar tissue, which is nowhere near as pliable as it once was! So, everything hurts more, sooner! On the other hand, you also know what to expect the second time around, so you're less likely to worry about every little thing! Which helps a lot . . . an easier mind makes for a much easier pregnancy and labor! And, if worse DOES come to worse (not that I'm wishing it on you, by any means!), I've heard that second c's are actually a little easier than the first . . . (again, I've never had one, so no first-hand knowledge!)In the end, though, in spite of all the pain and soreness and everything, it's always worth it. Each time!Good luck getting pregnant! Hope it happens soon!
