Default Newfoundland - Canada

Since I am already there, I thought I make some advertising for my home province. Newfoundland is a great place for summer vacation. The temperatures are not too hot, the scenery is great and mother nature provides you with the best of everything. Make sure you plan a trip from one end of the island to the other. You can take the ferry from both locations.

Visiting to Canada this season is a good choice, I think. I can recommend two Canada tour to you. They are provided by Tours4fun.com. The itinerary is perfectly arranged. Departure from New York, then to the Corning Glass Center. If your parents take the tour, they can firstly sightsee the spectacular Niagara Falls, then go to Canada, including Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec, and Thousand Island. At the end, they can com back in Boston. Sounds good? I hope so.
The below is the links I recommend to you. Hope your parents have a wonderful vacation.

Default Newfoundland - Canada

"The Far East of the Western World", Cape Spear is North America's most easterly point. The restored lighthouse marks the spot. Open all year round, Cape Spear National Historic Park, on Highway 11 11 km south of St John's, is the most easterly point in North America, and has Newfoundland's oldest lighthouse. It was established in 1835 and continue its operation until 1955. In addition there are massive half-ruined gun emplacements from the Second World War, including the barrels of two guns each weighing 30 tons and having a range of 13 km (8 mi.).

Hello

There are some two million lakes in Canada, covering about 7.6 percent of the Canadian landmass. The main lakes, in order of the surface area located in Canada (many large lakes are traversed by the Canada-U.S. border), are Huron, Great Bear, Superior, Great Slave, Winnipeg, Erie and Ontario. The largest lake situated entirely in Canada is Great Bear Lake (31 328 km2) in the Northwest Territories. Great Slave is the deepest lake in Canada at 614 metres- 6th deepest in the world. The highest major lake (over 100 square kilometres) in Canada is Chilko Lake, B.C. Its elevation is 1 171 metres and area is 158 square kilometres.

Have a nice day

Hello
The Canadian Kennel Club Breed Standard for the Newfoundland Dog states that "the breed originated in Newfoundland from dogs indigenous to the island, and the big black bear dogs introduced by the Vikings in 1001 A.D. With the advent of European fishermen, a variety of new breeds helped to shape and re-invigorate the breed, but the essential characteristics of the Newfoundland dog remained. By the time colonization was permitted in 1610, the distinct physical characteristics and mental attributes had been established in the breed for all time."
While the exact origin of the Newfoundland Dog is debated, the three most common theories are that the breed: a) evolved from the now extinct Black Wolf which was crossed with the Asiatic Mastiff; b) developed by crossing native dogs/wolves with the dogs the Vikings brought to Newfoundland around 1000 AD; or c) developed from interbreedings of Mastiffs, Sheepdogs and Waterdogs brought to North America by European explorers during the 15th and 16th centuries.
The name "Newfoundland Dog" was first used in 1775 when Mr. George Cartwright applied it to his own dog. Around the end of the 17th century some dogs were shipped from Newfoundland to Europe, mostly to England. During this time, there were two sizes for the breed known as the "Greater" and "Lesser" St. John's Dog and both of these were shipped to Europe. It is believed that the dog known as the "Lesser St. John's Dog" was used in the development of Retrievers while the larger one, the "Greater St. John's Dog", was further developed in England into the Newfoundland Dog as he is known today. The first breed club, the Newfoundland Club, was started in England in 1886. Today, the Newfoundland Dog is seen all over the world and most purebred Newfoundlands, even in Newfoundland, are descended from those born in England.

Newfoundland is one of Canada's ten provinces. It is an Atlantic or "Maritime" province. It can be found on the East Coast of the country, near the Atlantic Ocean.

Newfoundland was Britain's first North American colony, claimed by John Cabot in 1497. Sir Gilbert officially proclaimed Newfoundland a colony of England in 1583. (To relate it to U.S. history, this was 3 years before the Virginia Colony of Roanoke and 37 years before Plymouth Rock).

In 1931 Newfoundland became a Dominion, of equal status within the British Empire as Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa. However, the Great Depression caused problems for the Dominion and they reverted back to a colony of Great Britain. On June 22, 1948 a referendum on the future of the nation was held and Union with Canada narrowly won. Newfoundland joined the Canadian Confederation in 1949.
